The Coram Deo Gallery

Call For Art: Summer Psalms Art Show

In anticipation of our regular summer tradition of preaching through the Psalms, we’d like to invite you to participate in a brand new opportunity! This summer, we will be hosting an exhibit in our art gallery featuring art made by you — Coram Deo Church members and attendees.

We invite you to spend time the remainder of this winter and spring reading and meditating on the Psalms (with special attention to Psalms 24-32, our preaching focus this summer.) We hope these Psalms will inspire you to create! And, we hope you’d be willing to share your work-- visual art, poetry, original music, etc.-- with the rest of the church.

All works will be accepted for display for the gallery opening of the show which will take place on Friday, June 4th. Please bring you display-ready pieces to the church anytime between May 23rd - June 2nd. If you need assistance getting your piece ready for display or if your piece is a performance, please contact Cheryl Dyer. With your submission please include your name, age if you're a child and an optional description of the piece. (Note: If the response is overwhelming the Gallery team might need to decide which pieces stay on permanent exhibit throughout the summer. )

To assist you in your preparations, in addition to the Scriptures, we’d like to recommend a few books on the Psalms that might be helpful to you: Open and Unafraid by David Taylor and Answering God: The Psalms as Tools for Prayer by Eugene Peterson.

 Q&A

Does my artwork have to contain actual wording from the Psalms?
Not at all. You certainly can include words, but your work can simply include imagery inspired by your readings.

Do I have to be good at art to participate?
No! We’re not holding a contest for who can create the best works. This is simply an invitation to interact with scripture in a new way and to share that with your church.

Can kids participate?
Absolutely. We will have a special section in the gallery for kids’ work.

Do I have to focus only on Psalms 24-32?
Not at all, all Psalms accepted!

What if I want to submit a song to perform as a part of the opening show?
Please send an mp3 of your song with notes explaining how the song would be played live.

When should I have my art work submitted?
All artwork should be submitted between May 23 and June 2, 2021.

Who do I contact with other questions? If I have art work, how do I submit it?
We are excited about your interest in the Psalms Art Show! Please reach out to Cheryl Dyer with all questions and submissions!
